10 reasons first‑time investors can learn the exit before the loss

Plenty of investors learn the exit rule after their first big loss. You can learn it first. In week one David teaches the exit-first basics, and every formal recommendation arrives with its buy-under, stop and target already set.

What every formal recommendation looks likeExample
TARGET 2.30 BUY UNDER 2.00 STOP 1.85
Buy under$2.00
Stop$1.85
Target$2.30
Illustrative example only, not a real recommendation. Every formal Investor Plus recommendation gives you all three numbers before you buy.

Reason 01 · The basics

Three numbers, explained before you spend a dollar

A share recommendation that only says what to buy leaves out the hard part. Every formal recommendation in Investor Plus arrives with three numbers: the price to buy under, where the analysts would step aside if it goes wrong, and the target, with a timeframe.

On day one you can simply follow them. Over the weeks you learn why they sit where they do, by watching real calls, hearing the reasoning every weekday and asking about anything that doesn't make sense.

"The Equity Story team have been great educators for me to learn and understand "stories" and charts as a true beginner."

Reason 02 · The stop

The rule that's cheapest to learn first

Equity Story's rule is short: decide the exit before the entry, then stick to it. The stop-loss guidance tells you, ahead of time, how much you're prepared to lose on a position. When a share turns, you step aside at the line and keep your money for the next idea.

Calls do miss. Stops are guidance and prices can gap past them. Starting with the rule already in place means a miss stays small while you're still learning, and you never have to unlearn a bad habit.

"I would have saved (not lost thousands of dollars) if I had have done this course earlier. I'm now more confident dealing with the fluctuations of the markets now that I'm armed with a simple plan."
Phil J.
"The emphasis on keeping your money safe while also staying a breast of current economic developments."
Kylie W.
Reason 03 · The team

A chartist and a fundamentalist, checking each other's work

Every recommendation has to get past two people who read shares differently. David reads the chart. Pete reads the business. When one of them isn't convinced, you hear the argument.

Equity Story Pty Ltd holds Australian Financial Services Licence 343937 and is part of ASX-listed Aland Equity Group (ASX: AEG), so you can look them up before you join.

Ask The Analyst: no question is too basic

David TildesleyPeter KopetzYour hosts: David Tildesley and Peter Kopetz

Tuesday night or Friday lunchtime, you're on Zoom with David and Pete. Ask what a stop is, why a target has a timeframe, or what to do with the shares you've just bought. Nobody's going to make you feel silly for asking. You'll pick up plenty from other members' questions too, and the recordings sit in the archive.

Reason 05 · Daily

Daily Market Edge: a short lesson every weekday

David and Pete record it at their desks every weekday, with no studio and no script: what the ASX did, which shares they like and why, and the buy-under, stop and target for each formal recommendation. Fifteen to twenty minutes with your morning coffee, and each one teaches you a little more of the language.

"After trying a few different companies I found Equity Story to be the company i easily understood and felt comfortable with."
Michelle W.
Reason 06 · Sunday

The team's best idea for the week, in your inbox on Sunday night

Hot Stocks Weekly Pick is the team's highest-conviction idea for the week ahead, with entry, stop and target guidance. Read it on Sunday evening and Monday morning starts with the plan already written.

"A couple of days later and sold back out of it with a nice 15% return. Just on that one trade. Thats why I'm sticking with these guys."

Reason 07 · Signals

Einstein's Report: the weekly signal board

Every week the shares the team follows get a signal: Buy, Bullish, Sell or Bear, with the chart showing support, resistance and momentum. It's the quickest way to check whether something you already hold has turned, and what to steer clear of.

Reason 08 · Week one

Learn the exit‑first method before your first trade

In your first week David teaches you the basics of the Cincinnati Trading Method: planning the exit, sizing the position, setting the stop. It's called CTM Foundations, and it's included. You can learn it before you place a single trade, so your very first trade already has its exit written down.

"I've been trading stock for 42 years… Part sceptic part believer in the charts. … I highly recommend this to new and old, like me, investors."
Matthew B.
Reason 09 · For you

Made for true beginners

Everything is in plain English. You trade through your own broker, and Equity Story never handles your money. One member who joined with no trading experience at all describes learning through the method, the daily videos and the twice-weekly live sessions. You can take it at your own pace.

"I joined Equity Story a year ago, having no trading experience at all. The team at Equity Story provided me with the knowledge on how to trade using their Cincinnati training method, their daily videos and their twice weekly 'Ask the 'Analyst' sessions."
Lyndell D.

FAQ

Questions people ask before joining

I've never bought a share. Is this too advanced for me?

No. David covers the exit-first foundations in your first week, everything is in plain English, and you can bring any question to the live sessions, however basic. You'll need your own broker account to place trades; Equity Story never handles your money.

Should I wait until I know more before joining?

That's your call. The method is built so the first thing you learn is the exit, before you've risked anything. You can watch the daily videos and the live sessions for as long as you like before you place a trade.

Do your picks always go up?

No, and nobody honest will promise you that. Losses are part of investing and no approach avoids them. That's why every formal recommendation comes with stop-loss guidance, so you decide ahead of time how much you're prepared to lose. Stops aren't guaranteed: prices can gap past them. The method works on weekly charts, so judge a call over weeks. As one member put it: "They do not get 100% of their calls correct, but they do very well."

Is Equity Story licensed?

Yes. Equity Story Pty Ltd holds Australian Financial Services Licence 343937 and is part of Aland Equity Group Limited (ASX: AEG).

I'm fairly new to this. Will I keep up?

Yes. David covers the exit-first foundations in your first week, and you can bring any question to the live sessions, however basic it feels.

How much time does it take?

About 15–20 minutes a weekday for the daily video, plus the Sunday pick. The live sessions are optional, and the recordings sit in the archive if you can't make it.

Is this personal financial advice?

No. Investor Plus is general advice. It doesn't take your personal objectives, financial situation or needs into account. Consider whether it's right for you, and speak to a licensed adviser if you need personal advice.

What happens after I join?

You get instant access to today's video, the archive and the link for this week's live sessions. In your first week David takes you through the exit-first basics. You trade through your own broker; Equity Story never handles your money or places trades for you.

How does the refund policy work?

Give it a proper go: watch the daily videos, come along to at least one Ask The Analyst session and have a look at the weekend reports. If you decide within 30 days of joining that it's not for you, email support@equitystory.com.au and ask for a refund of your $247. Refunds are subject to our refund policy and its conditions. See the terms and conditions.

How does billing and renewal work?

It's $247 a year. Your membership renews automatically at $247 each year unless you cancel, and you'll get an email before it renews. Cancel any time before your renewal date by emailing support@equitystory.com.au and you won't be charged again.

Will you try to sell me other things?

Equity Story runs other things, such as the full Cincinnati Trading Method training and live events, and members hear about them. You don't need any of them to get full value from Investor Plus.

How is this different from other share newsletters?

Plenty of services give you the buy. Investor Plus gives you the exit plan as well, and twice a week you can put your questions to the analysts who made the call.

Do I need a particular broker?

No. Use whichever broker you like. Equity Story doesn't handle your money or place trades for you.
