10 reasons investors who rode it up and back down finally know when to sell

You bought the run, watched it climb, promised yourself you'd sell at a round number, then watched it slide all the way back. Every formal Investor Plus recommendation arrives with the target and the stop set before you buy.

What every formal recommendation looks likeExample
TARGET 2.30 BUY UNDER 2.00 STOP 1.85
Buy under$2.00
Stop$1.85
Target$2.30
Illustrative example only, not a real recommendation. Every formal Investor Plus recommendation gives you all three numbers before you buy.

Reason 01 · The exit

The target is set before the run starts

The run is the easy part. You're up, it feels like it will keep going, and the sell price you promised yourself creeps a little higher each day. Then it turns, and you hold on for it to get back to where it was. It doesn't, and the gain you had is gone.

Every formal recommendation in Investor Plus arrives with three numbers: buy-under, stop and target, with a timeframe. When the price reaches the target, the decision is already made. You made it before the excitement started.

"One of the hardest thing is when to sell, they'll let you know what they think if its time to do that. … I cannot trade without this one."
Chris D.
"Too many times I've sold at the bottom or bought at the top. Their trading techniques have shown me when and what to trade."
Tim
Reason 02 · The stop

A stop that protects the gain you already have

Most round trips start with a good entry and no exit on paper. Equity Story's rule is short: decide the exit before the entry, then stick to it. The stop-loss guidance tells you ahead of time where you'd step aside, so a share that turns gets sold on a plan, before the whole gain is handed back.

Calls do miss. Stops are guidance only and prices can gap past them. What the stop does is settle the decision early, before a turn becomes a full round trip.

"The team at Equity Story have given me the ability to trade without emotion. Simple strategies that work. Keep to the plan and it works."
Tim
"They do not get 100% of their calls correct, but they do very well."
Roy R.
Reason 03 · The team

A chartist and a fundamentalist, checking each other's work

Every recommendation has to get past two people who read shares differently. David reads the chart. Pete reads the business. When one of them isn't convinced, you hear the argument.

Equity Story Pty Ltd holds Australian Financial Services Licence 343937 and is part of ASX-listed Aland Equity Group (ASX: AEG), so you can look them up before you join.

Reason 04 · Live

Ask The Analyst: bring your own shares, live, twice a week

Tuesday night or Friday lunchtime, you're on Zoom with David and Pete. Bring the share you've held for ten years, the one sitting on your watchlist, or the stop you're unsure about. You'll pick up plenty from other members' questions too.

"The personal support and ability to interact with the lead analysts is what makes this product a no brainer."

"The Ask the Analysts sessions have been invaluable to assess shares I have bought as I navigate and build my portfolio."

Reason 05 · Daily

Fifteen minutes a weekday, instead of chasing the next one

Chasing the next run means reading every headline and every forum thread. Daily Market Edge is 15 to 20 minutes every weekday, recorded by David and Pete at their desks with no studio and no script: what the ASX did, which shares they like and why, and the buy-under, stop and target for each formal recommendation. In a 2021 survey of members, 82% said they can't do without it.

"The guesswork is gone and there is no panic buying or selling since finding Dave and Pete. … using the Cincinnati method the entry and exit points are laid out clearly."
Craig M.
Reason 06 · Sunday

The week's best idea, with the exit already attached

Hot Stocks Weekly Pick is the team's highest-conviction idea for the week ahead. It lands on Sunday night with entry, stop and target guidance, so you know where you'd take the gain and where you'd step aside before Monday's open. You're reading the plan before the run, instead of reading about the run once it's over.

"A couple of days later and sold back out of it with a nice 15% return. Just on that one trade. Thats why I'm sticking with these guys."
Greg M.

Reason 07 · Signals

Einstein's Report: the weekly signal board

Every week the shares the team follows get a signal: Buy, Bullish, Sell or Bear, with the chart showing support, resistance and momentum. It's the quickest way to check whether something you already hold has turned, and what to steer clear of.

Bear
"The Einstein's trends paid off for me… The emphasis on keeping your money safe while also staying a breast of current economic developments."
Kylie W.
Reason 08 · Method

Learn to bank the gain in week one

In your first week David teaches you the basics of the Cincinnati Trading Method: planning the exit, sizing the position, setting the stop. The short version: bank the fives, cut the twos, and let the maths do the rest. A target set in advance is what turns a good run into a gain you actually keep.

Six 5% gains compound to about +34%. That's illustrative arithmetic, not a promise or forecast, and calls miss. It shows why a modest gain you take on plan does more for you than a big one you hand back.

"They provided balanced and considered advice, encourage you to not be greedy and know your strengths and weaknesses as a trader."
Alessandra S.
"the continual warnings- don't be greedy-sell off losers- be patient build balanced portfolios-etc all commonsense stuff that most of us tend to forget without the constant reminders"
David
Reason 09 · For you

Made for beginners, and for 40-year veterans

Everything is in plain English, and the live sessions take questions at any level. Nobody's going to make you feel silly for asking. Members who've traded for decades come for something else: a second opinion they can question, twice a week.

"I joined Equity Story a year ago, having no trading experience at all. The team at Equity Story provided me with the knowledge on how to trade using their Cincinnati training method, their daily videos and their twice weekly 'Ask the 'Analyst' sessions."
Lyndell D.
"I've been trading stock for 42 years… Part sceptic part believer in the charts. … I highly recommend this to new and old, like me, investors."
Matthew B.

FAQ

Questions people ask before joining

Isn't this really about better timing?

Timing helps you get in. Getting out needs a plan written down before you buy. Each formal recommendation gives you a target with a timeframe and stop-loss guidance before you buy, so the sell decision is made while you're calm. Calls miss, and stops are guidance only: prices can gap past them.

Do your picks always go up?

No, and nobody honest will promise you that. Losses are part of investing and no approach avoids them. That's why every formal recommendation comes with stop-loss guidance, so you decide ahead of time how much you're prepared to lose. Stops aren't guaranteed: prices can gap past them. The method works on weekly charts, so judge a call over weeks. As one member put it: "They do not get 100% of their calls correct, but they do very well."

Is Equity Story licensed?

Yes. Equity Story Pty Ltd holds Australian Financial Services Licence 343937 and is part of Aland Equity Group Limited (ASX: AEG).

I'm fairly new to this. Will I keep up?

Yes. David covers the exit-first foundations in your first week, and you can bring any question to the live sessions, however basic it feels.

How much time does it take?

About 15–20 minutes a weekday for the daily video, plus the Sunday pick. The live sessions are optional, and the recordings sit in the archive if you can't make it.

Is this personal financial advice?

No. Investor Plus is general advice. It doesn't take your personal objectives, financial situation or needs into account. Consider whether it's right for you, and speak to a licensed adviser if you need personal advice.

What happens after I join?

You get instant access to today's video, the archive and the link for this week's live sessions. In your first week David takes you through the exit-first basics. You trade through your own broker; Equity Story never handles your money or places trades for you.

How does the refund policy work?

Give it a proper go: watch the daily videos, come along to at least one Ask The Analyst session and have a look at the weekend reports. If you decide within 30 days of joining that it's not for you, email support@equitystory.com.au and ask for a refund of your $247. Refunds are subject to our refund policy and its conditions. See the terms and conditions.

How does billing and renewal work?

It's $247 a year. Your membership renews automatically at $247 each year unless you cancel, and you'll get an email before it renews. Cancel any time before your renewal date by emailing support@equitystory.com.au and you won't be charged again.

Will you try to sell me other things?

Equity Story runs other things, such as the full Cincinnati Trading Method training and live events, and members hear about them. You don't need any of them to get full value from Investor Plus.

How is this different from other share newsletters?

Plenty of services give you the buy. Investor Plus gives you the exit plan as well, and twice a week you can put your questions to the analysts who made the call.

Do I need a particular broker?

No. Use whichever broker you like. Equity Story doesn't handle your money or place trades for you.
